How it is measured and what the law says

Measured as total length, from the snout with the mouth closed to the tip of the tail fin. They are set by Law No. 3556/08 on Fishing and Aquaculture (art. 34), enforced by MADES across the whole country.

On the stretch shared with Argentina the binational Unified Regulation (Ituzaingó, 2000) also applies and requires 75 cm for dorado: on the border, the higher limit rules.

Fish below these sizes must be returned to the water.

If you come from abroad: the trophy

Foreign anglers do have a number: Res. SEAM 650/13 lets them take home as trophies up to 2 mixed fish plus 1 surubí or dorado, or up to 3 mixed fish (sábalo, boga, pacú or patí).

Legal size does not let you fish during the closed season: dates and the licence are on the licence and closed season page. Licence, closed season and sizes

Everything on this page comes from the guide's licence, size and bag limit cards, checked against Law No. 3556/08 and the resolutions cited. This is a guide, not an official source: when in doubt, MADES rules.
